Meet Claire
Hi everyone! My name is Claire Sun, and I am the founder of Major Melodies. While the "Home" page provides more details about the business, this page offers a glimpse into my personal journey.
My favorite concerto is Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, specifically Winter. There’s something haunting, yet beautiful about the harmonies that always draws me in. I love listening to classical music, though ironically, I don’t have a single favorite piece. That said, a few works I deeply admire include Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata (1st Movement), Chopin’s Etude Op. 10 No. 1 in C Major, and his Nocturne in C-sharp Minor No. 20. I haven’t had the chance to play any of these yet, but they’re definitely on my musical bucket list!

A Personal Path
I began learning the piano at the age of 5, starting with familiar tunes like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Over the years, my repertoire evolved to include Bach inventions, Chopin waltzes, sonatas, and fantasias. Currently, I am working towards the Level 10 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certification.
Practicing became particularly difficult during the pandemic as in-person lessons transitioned to FaceTime and Zoom sessions, which were hampered by poor iPad quality. Nonetheless, as the years went by, my relationship with the piano endured its own ups and downs.
In elementary school, my teacher told me I had perfect pitch (the ability to identify notes by ear). It was a moment that changed how I saw myself as a musician. Though I’m still a bit skeptical about it, that realization helped me connect more deeply with music and made practicing more intuitive.
I teach because I understand what it’s like to struggle, to grow, and to fall in love with an instrument. I want to help students find their own “Aha Moments,” whether it’s discovering a new piece they love or simply playing a melody that makes them smile.
